COMPANY HISTORY
Founded back in 1997, Flat Pak Packaging was started to investigate a need in the pizza industry: A replacement for the costly, outdated, eco-unfriendly corrugated pizza box. The original concept was simple enough; use a bag and tray system to carry pizza instead of a box.
Incorporated in 2003, many years of R&D ensued with the culmination of different forms and ideas. During this period, several key alliances were formed to help develop and set up manufacture of Flat Pak’s patented system. Since then, Flat Pak has been working with and presenting themselves to numerous companies in the Hot and Take-n-Bake industry, establishing themselves as a promising alternative to the corrugated pizza box.
In 2008, during Flat Pak’s ongoing R&D work to constantly improve its products, its engineers used emerging environmental technologies to develop a special biocompostable material. This material would allow a pizza tray to be formed that was bakeable, sturdy, cost-effective and eco-friendly. This new creation, along with extensive design work, has allowed Flat Pak to come up with a revolutionary new product in not only pizza, but all food delivery. Being biocompostable within 9 months of normal burial in a landfill, our new tray uses no trees and is still compostable when stained with grease; a condition that corrugated is not even considered recyclable under.
In early 2009, another breakthrough led Flat Pak to enhance our recyclable bags using a special formulated polymer that allows our bags to become biodegradable. The final elements of decomposition are carbon dioxide and water. This new achievement has created the world’s first and only earth friendly pizza packaging that is not only environmentally conscious, but economically fiscal as well.
Flat Pak’s future is looking very bright as we see many companies on the horizon with an eagerness to move towards eco-friendly products that fit into a budget plan regardless of economic times. With a long history of product evolvement and commitment to excellent customer service, it is a positive sign that Flat Pak will not only be involved, but a leader in the eco-product industry for many years to come.
